GSMA recommends the use of mobile devices with notified electronic identification (eID) means

The GSMA, an association that represents the telecommunications industry worldwide, has published a report on the link in a pilot environment of its multi-use identity solution, called Mobile Connect, with the eIDAS Regulation.

It establishes the convenience of using mobile devices together with an electronic identification means (eID) notified at EU level.

The pilot contributes to the development of an strategic action plan to use the assets of mobile operators to accelerate the development of a safe and reliable digital ecosystem. To achieve this goal, the report provides recommendations to EU Member States, mobile operators and private sector service providers.

This pilot  has been supported by the Vice President of the European Commission, Andrus Ansip, and by the European Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society, Mariya Gabriel, who have provided guidance on architectural interoperability requirements and other regulatory issues.

In addition, through the CEF Program, the European Commission is making funds available to mobile telephony operators and other private sector organizations to link their services with eIDAS.

Working together to improve Digital Trust

Public as well as private sector organizations have worked together in this pilot project with the final goal of accelerating the uptake of trusted and secure digital authentication in response to the EU Regulation on electronic Identification, Authentication and Trust Services (eIDAS)and its implementing acts.
